![]() At my request, he made suggestions on manufacturers and models, even bookmarking Amazon pages and DIY videos for me. I asked about changing the drive to an SSD at the same time. He confirmed that it was possible with additional memory. Concerned about the security of Safari, I asked a Genius if my MBP could be upgraded to 10.9. I have always found the Geniuses to be extremely patient and helpful.Ī recent example: I have a 5+ year old MBP that had been running 10.6, a dated OS. ![]() I can practically guarantee that I will not be ignored. We could do this experiment: You and I could go into an Apple store together. There is really not much "browsing first then get help later" in Apple stores. If you wander in and avoid the greeters, you will probably not have anyone assigned to you. Their Greeters are there to meet and greet you and assign staff to you. Do not avert your gaze which is a signal to "Leave me alone" and do not avoid them when you first walk in the store. Another tip: Treat them like a waiter in a restaurant and beckon them to come to you. Even so, I do look right into the eyes of every single store employee when they glance my way and smile. No, I am not picking up the laptops and smashing them on the floor, but I am usually accosted as soon as I step in. I am closer to 60 than I am to 50 and I have no problems getting approached by 5 or 6 blue shirt folks in the store I go into. I showed up with my 18 year old nephew, and voilà, I was actually waited on without the obligatory 20-30 minute wait. I know that at 50+, I am out of their target market. Jlawrence01 wrote:Every time that I go into an Apple store, I am ignored completely. Now that I think about it, he had probably heard that joke many times before. The last time, the 'genuis' didn't appreciate my joke when I wondered aloud if they were assembling the devices in back. No idea why the person in front can't go get the device instead of standing next to you waiting for it to be delivered. Plenty of front of the house staff helping people make purchases but it takes forever for the back of the house staff to deliver merchandise from the stockroom. This has been my experience when making purchases too. In the meantime, the "genius" was still telling the people behind me that it will take 20 mins, though I was already waiting for more than an hour. It took us 2 hours to get the chance to buy the phone and we were done in 5 mins. It was busy and we were directed to the back of line outside the store and the "genius" there said it is available and reserved one for us and said that we will be able to buy it in 20 mins. So, we stopped by the store in the mall on sunday at 2 pm. The website showed a phone being available but after we enter the CC info and click on place order, it showed an error message saying that the store did not have inventory. Went in with a friend that wanted to purchase latest iphone6 plus. Niceguy7376 wrote:My recent experience was not good. When you say it's nearly impossible to get an answer without an appointment at the Genius bar, I wonder whether the problem might be that you are asking questions of the non-Genius staff, i.e., the appointments staff and sales staff, that can only be answered by the Genius staff.Ĭan you provide an example or two of your encounters with staff? What you're asking and their replies? Thanks. I've been to these stores in several states and the service has always been great. My experiences over many years with the Apple Store folks are exactly the opposite of what you describe. Replaced my son's iPhone after water damage and charge us something like $35.įull disclosure, We've been a Mac family for 25+ years and have been APPL stock owner before Jobs even go back. They seems to go out of their way to be helpful, like repairing my MBP at no cost after few weeks after the warranty. If anything they are very friendly and preppy. I live near one of the store and been to few others in NYC, LA, SF and not once I feel that they are arrogant or aloof. Tell me I am old and get over myself, ok with that. Maybe I am not hip or that is just the way Apple rolls. It is near impossible to get an answer without an appointment with a "Genius". The folks that work there are arrogant, aloof, and inflexible with the stores in various stages of chaos. Every time I enter the store (different cities/stores) the experience is the same. Have a substantial amount of Apple stock (only individual stock). Owned every product and give them high marks. Wricha wrote:I have used Apple products for over 20 years.
